When do I intervene?

The birthing process may require close monitoring of the baby if the mother has risk factors and I am ready to do that close monitoring. If the mother’s condition is low risk, I favor allowing the natural birth process to take place.

What is my approach to pain management?

Pain can be managed with non-medical techniques for mother’s care. When medicines are desired, I support IV pain medicine or an epidural during labor.

How do my patients describe me?

Mothers would say that I am involved closely with them during the entire second stage of pushing. Earlier in the labor, the nursing staff is the main support for the mother.

Why do I practice obstetrics?
I practice obstetrics because I believe in the service it provides to my patients. I continue to be amazed with each birth and new life appearing before our eyes.
