When do I intervene?
My philosophy for maternity care is that pregnancy is not a disease, and the less we intervene the better. If a mom feels safe and secure in whatever setting she chooses, then the labor is more likely to progress the way it needs to. Intervention may be necessary if problems arise, but should be used cautiously.
What is my approach to pain management?
Pain in labor can be relieved by quite a range of modalities including supportive cares by family members or a doula, physical comforts such as walking, rocking, water therapy, and the use of medication including epidurals, if needed. Sometimes medication can alter the progress of labor and then can lead to more intervention and potentially more risk.
How do my patients describe me?
Caring and thoughtful.
Why do I practice obstetrics?
OB care and newborn care is a wonderful part of Family Practice. I get to know the whole family and follow them long term, watch them grow and develop and see them start their own new families.
