Each family receives a variety of baby keepsakes, a birth certificate and personal care items for mom.

Birth announcements
With parent consent, Red Cedar Medical Center posts newborn photos and information on our online nursery for family and friends to see. We also send a birth announcement to the local newspapers.

Breast feeding support
Family Birth Suites offers free lactation support and sells lactation products at a reduced cost to mom’s who deliver here. Learn more about breast feeding classes.

Comfort in the Birth Suites
Red Cedar Medical Center’s new Family Birth Suites is designed with the family in mind. Complete with a nourishment center for mom and her immediate family, as well as a lactation resource room, everyone will feel pampered in spacious private rooms featuring whirlpool spas and wireless internet. Continuity of care
Red Cedar Medical Center’s maternity program offers unprecedented continuity of care. Most likely, your provider will be with you from the physician’s office to the delivery room.

Hugs & Kisses™ infant security
The Family Birth Suites is equipped with the Hugs & Kisses infant security system. Each infant wears a comfortable Hugs tag attached by a soft tamper-proof strap around his or her ankle. Each mother wears a Kisses device on her wrist. Combined with Hugs, it automatically confirms that the right baby is with the right mother. This system allows staff to know where each baby is located and helps to ensure that the correct baby is connected with the right mother.

Mother baby couplet care
Mom and baby receive mother baby couplet care, which means that one nurse provides care to mom and baby instead of two different nurses.

One-on-one attention
All moms have the opportunity to meet with a Family Birth Suites nurse one-on-one to discuss their pain management preferences, complete the registration process in advance and discuss any questions or concerns mom may have about the upcoming delivery.

Postpartum massage
Each new mom receives one massage from one of Red Cedar Medical Center’s licensed massage therapists before going home (depending upon availability). Those who aren’t able to receive a massage before discharge receive a certificate to come back for a half hour of relaxation.

Range of pain management
The Family Birth Suites gives expecting mothers so many options, including a wide range of choices on how to manage pain. Whether mom wants an epidural or no medication at all, to use a whirlpool tub or an exercise ball, we can create a plan that mom is comfortable with. Learn more about your pain management options.
