The facility contains an outpatient services room, seven postpartum rooms, a nursery protected by the Hugs and Kisses infant security system, a nourishment center, three labor/delivery/recovery rooms, and a family waiting room. Learn more about our new Family Birth Suites and amenities below.

Outpatient services room

  • This is portion of our birth center serves three main functions:

    • Prenatal outpatient testing for moms
    • Weight/color/feeding checks
    • Breastfeeding support, supplies, etc.

Seven postpartum rooms

  • After delivering baby, new Moms are moved into one of our seven postpartum rooms.
  • The rooms were designed to promote family togetherness and feature the following amenities:

    • Whirlpool tubs with showers for postpartum pain relief.  Helps promote healing, comfort and relaxation.
    • Private bathrooms
    • Nurse servers to exchange dishes, laundry and supplies without interruptions
    • Fold out couches for dad or labor coach to stay with mom
    • Tables and chairs to accommodate family and visitors
    • TVs with cable and DVD players
  • Mom and guests order meals into mom’s  room from a restaurant-like menu
  • Mom gets a complimentary 30-minute in-room massage while the nursery cares for the new baby

Nursery

  • FBS supports the general concept that baby stays with mom in her room day and night.  However, parents have the option to bring baby to the nursery anytime during their stay, such as while they shower, get a massage or rest.
  • FBS does the following things for babies in the procedure area:
    • Hearing screens
    • Weight checks
    • Lab work
  • Public is invited to view new arrivals from the windows, which are much lower in the new facility so smaller siblings and relatives can see what is going on.
  • Security:
    • There is no public access to the nursery.  The nursery is secure and is only accessible through the nurse station.
    • The facility uses the Hugs and Kisses infant security system.  Each infant wears a comfortable Hugs tag attached by a soft tamperproof strap around his or her ankle. Each mother wears a Kisses device on her wrist.  When combined with Hugs, it automatically confirms that the right baby is with the right mother.

Nurse station

  • Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) sits at the front desk and welcomes patients and visitors to the wing.
  • The HUC has clear sight of the main entrance as added security.
  • The station is unique that the same station opens to the delivery and post partum side of the facility, which allows easier access to patients.  In addition, nurses and staff are more visible to patients.

Nourishment center

  • Patients and their immediate family have access to the refrigerator, snacks, drinks and coffee.  They can even store their own food here, which is something dads like.
  • The back exit serves as an emergency exit only.  It is always locked and alarmed with security system.  It houses stairs to the lower level.

Three labor/delivery/recovery rooms

  • Whirlpool tub with shower for comfort during delivery

  • Pull out couch and chair for labor coach

  • Fetal monitor which monitors baby’s heartbeat and mom’s contractions

  • Appropriate hookups for all medical needs

  • Windows are mirrored on the outside for privacy; people cannot see in.  There are also blinds to draw as desired.
